📝 The “Airport Filming” Rule

Did you know? To film inside the airport terminal (including baggage claim or curbside), you must apply for a permit with the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority at least 3 to 5 business days in advance. Rates are tiered based on crew size. Contact: TerminalActivities@san.org | Call (619) 400-2400

✈️ THE NEW TERMINAL 1 (T1) – THE 2026 EDITION

The brand-new T1 has officially opened its first phase, offering a massive upgrade in “Hero” visuals and talent hospitality.

🏛️ Architecture & Filming Vibe

  • The Look: Soaring 40-foot glass walls, an outdoor check-in pavilion, and the “Luminous Wave” art installation.
  • Intent: Perfect for campaigns needing “The Modern Traveler” look. The natural light in the new T1 is a cinematographer’s dream compared to the fluorescent lighting of the old terminal.
  • Pro Tip: The new outdoor plaza allows for curbside talent shots with the San Diego skyline in the background without the claustrophobia of the old terminal design.

🛋️ New T1 Hospitality & Lounges

  • Delta Sky Club (New Flagship): A massive, state-of-the-art lounge featuring an outdoor “Sky Deck” with views of the runway and the bay. This is the ultimate spot to host executive clients or talent during a weather delay.
  • New San Diego “Marketplace”: The concessions are now 100% local. You can get Puesto tacos or Mostra Coffee without leaving the gate area—ideal for a quick “Taste of SD” for talent who are only on the ground for a one-day shoot.

🚗 Logistics & Ground Transport (T1)

  • The New Parking Plaza: T1 now features a massive, 5,200-space parking structure. This is a major win for production vans that used to struggle with the old T1’s limited height clearances.
  • Dedicated TNC (Uber/Lyft) Islands: The pickup flow is significantly faster now. No more talent standing on a crowded sidewalk; there are now dedicated, shaded bays for luxury car pickups.
  • Airport Shuttle: A dedicated “all-electric” shuttle fleet connects T1 to the Rental Car Center and the Old Town Transit Center every 10 minutes.

⚠️ PRODUCTION ALERT: The T1 Transition

As of early 2026, parts of the old terminal are still being demolished to make way for the second phase. Scout your background carefully. One direction may look like a futuristic paradise (New T1), while the other may still look like a construction zone. Always coordinate with the Airport Film Liaison to ensure your background is “clean.”
